Choosing a Roofing Contractor

NO ROOFING CONTRACTOR LICENSE- If the roof contractor does not have a certified Florida roof  contractor license they probably don’t know what they are doing or may be using another license. NO LIABILITY INSURANCE- When the roofimg contractor has no insurance, the property and owners are liable for any danger from the constructor; property insurance does not cover these damages. To prevent this problem, ask for a copy of the contractor’s insurance sheet with the homeowner’s information in the certificate holder area

NO WORKMAN’S COMPENSATION INSURANCE- Workman’s Compensation is extremely expensive and it’s mandatory in Florida but some contractor’s still cheat the system. To prevent this problem, ask for a copy of their insurance with property owner’s information in the certificate holder area

ILLEGAL WORKERS- Of course people who are illegal are going to work for cheaper but the risk is too dangerous. To prevent this problem, get a copy of the insurance sheet from the workman’s compensation company, which should do a check on each employee to verify if they are legal

USING SUB-CONTRACTORS- In some cases the owner may pay twice for the work being done if the contractor did not pay their sub-contractor. To prevent this problem, after the work is completed make sure the invoice says paid in full also including all sub-contactors

NO PERMIT - If a contractor does not pull a permit they are not going to meet the local building code standards which in turn will save them money while putting your property in jeopardy. To prevent this problem, make sure there is a permit posted before work is started

USING OUT OF TOWN CONTRACTORS- Florida is the toughest building code in the United States and any contractor that is not accustomed to the codes here will not install the roof properly and have problems with the building department. To prevent this problem, verify their local references

USING BELOW AVERAGE ROOF MATERIALS- There are many different ways of installing a roof and some contractor’s will offer lower grade materials to save money. To prevent this problem, ask each contractor to list the materials they will be applying on the contract

UNSKILLED ROOFERS- If roofing there are a number of mistakes that inexperienced laborers will often make that can be visually noticeable. To prevent this problem, ask for references to verify the quality of work and see if the contractor is an approved installer from the manufacture
